M2B - Meet Your Doula.png

Hi! I’m Janalyn Pomeroy, a birth and postpartum doula located on Long Island, New York.

Having a support system through the journey of growing your family is vital; a doula can bring emotional, physical and educational support to this time. I know you have a lot of options on who you give the honor of working with your growing family and I am thankful to be a part of your consideration.

My journey of becoming a doula started almost 20 years ago when I was working at a private adoption agency. Upon completing my Masters in Social Welfare, I was the birth coordinator for a private adoption agency. I had the privilege of walking along numerous brave women who were making an adoption plan for their unborn baby. In this role, I was a labor coach for over 25 of my birthmothers. Even though my primary responsibility was working with birthparents, I also supported the adoptive parents in preparing for their adoption and transitioning to parenthood. My years of adoption work instilled in me a love for the labor and delivery process. It also emphasized how crucial having support and education during delivery and the early stages of parenthood are in parents feeling confident and empowered.

In 2004, I hung up my social work career to become a mommy to our first son. Shortly after he was born I found myself involved with an organization called MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers). MOPS is for all women with children, birth - kindergarten. Through MOPS, I found and gave support, education and leadership training on all the diverse aspects women go through in these early years of parenting. My fourteen years with MOPS showed me that motherhood was meant to be orchestrated in a community.

The culmination of these seasons of my life has brought me to the wonderful world of being a doula. There are few things more sacred in life than the birth of your baby and the first few weeks of having them home with you. It is a time of immense joy, pain, hormones and lack of sleep. It is my desire to provide parents with an extra layer of support giving them special moments to breathe through this sacred time.
